Remembering Maurice Sendak
Children’s book author and illustrator, Maurice Sendak, was best known for his book, Where the Wild Things Are,which he won a Caldecott Medal for in 1964. Although Sendak passed away at age 83 in May 2012, his legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of children of all ages. Some of his works were controversial because they explored dark themes and fears of childhood and the illustrations seemed frightening for children. But he definitely left his mark in children’s books — who didn’t read Where the Wild Things Are as a child? And who doesn’t plan on reading it to their kids?
