What the Supreme Court Ruling on Health Care Means for Your Family
Photo: Veer / The BumpThis morning, the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act (also known as Obamacare), ruling that it is, in fact, constitutional. The health care law seeks to extend health insurance to millions of Americans, but it also contains a controversial mandate that requires all individuals who aren’t covered by an employer or government-sponsored insurance plan to obtain health insurance or pay a penalty fee.
-No insurance? You’ll pay higher taxes. The mandate requiring everyone to have health insurance will exist as a tax. So if you refuse to obtain health insurance, you might end up paying a higher tax.
-It’s no biggie if you or someone in your family has a chronic condition. If you have a pre-existing condition, you’ll be able to receive health insurance and you won’t have to pay more because of your health history. And yes, your employer is required to provide you with health insurance.
-Low on funds? You’ll get help. If you’re having trouble financially, the government will help you pay for health care. You’ll get free coverage if you earn up to 133% of the federal poverty level. And if you earn 133% to 400%, you’ll be eligible for federal aid so you can buy coverage.
-Goodbye gender rating. In some states, women have to pay more for insurance than men. With the ACA, everyone will pay an equal amount.
What do you think of the health care ruling? How do you think it will affect your family?

As with anything new it’s scary because it won’t be perfect but for our family i think it’ll help us a lot. we don’t have health insurance because it would be hundreds of dollars to pay for a premium and we simply cannot afford it , yet we make “too much” for government assistance so we are left with ruined credits if we have an emergency that we have to go to the er, like my miscarriage last year. I’m excited about the good things that will bring a lot of families like mine
It won’t be perfect for everyone, there is never a law, bill or plan that is perfect for everyone. But, it will cover millions of Americans who would have otherwise had no coverage or chance of coverage whatsoever…I think that it’s a good thing for the most part.
Finally… A chance for everyone to have coverage, not just the rich people who have those high paying white collar jobs. Ü
I am by no means Rich with a White Collar Job and I have private health insurance. Sterotype much??
I think its great that people are going to have the opportunity to get health care. I know plenty of friends who don’t have healthcare and this will be a blessing
for all of you that think this is a violation of rights.. wtf do you think requiring auto insurance is? I would much rather have to cover my family’s health than my car. just sayin..
Amazing! Massively enjoyable post. I’m just storing your web-site at the moment. Thx!
