The bumbo falling off an elevated surface is a danger but there are other dangers of this seat. Babies that do not have the head/neck/spine strength to sit upright are being placed in this thing all slumped over. That is not good! Also, these are not hip healthy. The seat locks a baby's legs and hips into an unnatural position. These seats are a hazard in more ways than one. I don't see how parents can mold their baby into this unnatural seat and think it is good for them?! Yes, it is nice to plop a baby in here so you can cook or do chores but please use common sense!!!

The Bumbo is the BEST seat for helping a baby develop the ability to sit upright, strengthening their muscles and giving them great posture. I used this seat for many, many babies in my daycare over the past few years and all have developed very nice posture. Also I was careful to follow the instructions NOT to place the seat on an elevated surface. When these seats are used properly, they are wonderful for both caregiver and child. Babies LOVE being able to sit up and see around them before they would be able to sit independently!

FYI, there have been numerous reports of babies falling or bucking out even when placed on the floor and not elevated. Skull fractures are nothing to mess with. Throw this seat out!

Any parent who uses any product for extended periods of time, in place of actually having to watch their child(ren) is going to have problems. Not because of the product(s), but because of the misuse of the products. Lets face it, the safety of baby items has greatly improved over time, but even when "walkers" looked like some type of death trap, if they were used correctly and under supervision for appropriate amounts of time, they were ok. It's when we as parents attempt to do too much, other than attentively watch our children, that we run into trouble. Too many times we take for granted that the products will keep them busy and we will have time to do whatever it is we need/want to do. It's when we abuse the time spent, when we expect PRODUCTS to keep our children safe- instead of us keeping them safe, when things go wrong. As parents we need to stop expecting all of the baby products to entertain our babies, we need to use them as they were intended to be used. No company out there makes products to replace parenting time, they make products to make the lives of today's parents easier. We have a Bumbo, which always was on the floor, our son never got hurt, he never wriggled out, because we were there with him each and every time we put him in it. We started putting him in the Bumbo at three months, again, always supervised, he was sitting on his own in no time, it helped him learn to use those muscles. All three of my kids also had walkers, each of them were in their walker by five or six months old, they were all walking, even running well before their 1st birthdays. My oldest, who is 13 now took his first steps at 7 months, my second who is now 8 took her first steps at 8 months, and my youngest who just turned 1, took his first steps right after his 10 month mark, all of them used walkers. If you use products the way they were intended, as a help to you or the baby, then many things can be very useful. If you take advantage of the use or misuse the products, anything can become harmful or dangerous. A spoon is a very simple product that most everyone uses, all over the world. However, if you give it to an infant too young to know how to properly use it, it can cause the child to choke, vomit, scratch the child's throat, cause damage to they eyes or ears, nose, where ever they figure to put it. That doesn't mean spoons should be recalled, or that there should be some warning label on all spoons, we should just know better than to just give it to an infant. Items that are used incorrectly can be and probably WILL be dangerous. But we as supposedly able, knowledgeable, competent parents need to act accordingly and make choices that are smart for our selves and our children instead of choices that seems to be more convenient for us. ( I'll step off my soap box now, thank you.)

What everyone here seems to be forgetting is that raising a child takes vigilance and work, but having a child is as easy as lying on your back for a few minutes. It's the women who are fine with the few minutes of pleasure but not everything that comes after that file the complaints on perfectly good products. Yes, it's common sense and even clearly stated on packaging to not put this on an elevated surface but the women doing this are typically the same ones that don't always make the connection that babies come from having sex. So why would you think that these are normal women making rational decisions?

I owned one of these and my daughter NEVER fell out of it. Probably because A. I never placed it on an elevated surface (which the directions tell you not to do anyway), and B. never left the child unattended. I don't know how stupid people are to have their child get injured in this chair. It baffles my mind. People need to pay attention to the directions/instructions that come with all baby products and also use some common sense to monitor your child properly.

After reading everyone's post. It makes me sad that soooo many people are quick to judge other parents and call them stupid. Everyone who has a baby is going to make mistakes at some point in their child's life. I can almost guarantee that every single person on here has ignored directions. Not to mention not everyone agrees on how to raise a child people do what works for them because there is no "correct" way to raise a child. You should also know that baby's have also cracked their skulls while sitting in the bumbo on the floor. Your child can get injured in any device. For example walkers/jumpers have been proven to cause a development delay with walking and serious accidents have happened while using them. Do I think parents are stupid or dumb from using one...no but I just decided not to use one. I'm mean seriously say your opinion but stop calling people stupid. Children medications and shots have multiple warnings do people still use them pretty sure they do. Encourage companies to make safe products for our children, encourage parents to listen to warnings, and make them aware of what could happen. Don't call them stupid because some day you make make a stupid mistake too.

I LOVED MY BUMBO SEAT I USED WITH MY DAUGHTER AND ALWAYS USED ON THE FLOOR (NO BRAINER) AND AS SOON AS SHE GOT TO WHERE SHE WAS TRYING TO PUSH UP AND GET OUT OF IT WE STOPPED USING IT AND STARTED USING HER STATIONARY WALKER, SO WITH A LITTLE COMMON SINCE OUR DAUGHTER NEVER HAD ANY INJURIES DUE TO HER BUMBO... I COULD SEE HOW SOME CHILDREN COULD GET HURT IN IT (IF PLACED OFF THE FLOOR OR IS BIG ENOUGH TO TRY AND GET OUT) BUT AS LONG AS THE PARENTS ARE PAYING ATTENTION TO WHERE THEY PUT THERE BABY AND WHAT THERE CHILD IS CAPABLE OF AT THE AGE THERE TRYING TO PUT THEM IN THE BUMBO THERE CHILD SHOULD BE FINE JUST LIKE WITH ANYTHING IF THE PARENTS ARE NOT USING COMMON SINCE AND PAYING ATTENTION THEN THE BABY IS LIABLE TO GET HURT. BUT NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE DOES AND HOW SAFE THEY ARE KIDS WILL STILL GET HURT YOU CAN JUST PREVENT THE BAD ACCIDENTS (USUALLY) BY BEING SMART. I WOULD RECOMMEND THE BUMBO TO ANY MOM!

I agree my daughter does the same same thing. I'm afraid she will hurt her back. I don't leave her in it without supervision, it could only take one sec for her to hurt herself. If she wasn't able to push herself up she wouldn't be able to tip the bumbo. It isn't neglect all products have restraints swings, strollers, highchairs, etc. The bumbo needs one too. My daughter started pushing herself out at 12 weeks. For 40 bucks I expected a product that last longer than 2 weeks of use.
