Parents of Twin Babies Treat Everyone on Airplane to Candy
Photo Credit: RedditWe’ve all been in this situation . The plane is about to take off and you spot (or rather, hear the screams of) a baby a few seats back. When you were just a passenger, you would roll your eyes and crank up the iPod. But what do you do when you become the parent of the screaming baby?
Apparently, all you need is a little candy.
On Monday, the parents of 14-week-old twins boarded a flight and passed out goody bags to their fellow passengers. In the bag, filled with all sorts of treats, the parents included the following message.
“Hello! We’re twin baby boys on our first flight, and we’re only 14 weeks old. We’ll try to be on our best behavior, but we’d like to apologize in advance just in case we lose our cool, get scared, or our ears hurt. Our Mom and Dad (AKA our portable milk machine and our diaper changer) have ear plugs available if you need them. We are all sitting in 20E and 20F if you want to come by a get a pair. Have a great flight!”
A Reddit user, who posted a photo of the goody bags , applauded the parents for their courtesy and dubbed them “brilliant and generous.” Some, however, were confused by the efforts. A fellow passenger felt it was a little much, commenting that the passengers are ”all adults who can understand that babies are prone to bouts of crying.”
Although it seems the pre-apology wasn’t necessary, the user reported that, ”the parents were fantastic, and the kids were better than would be expected.”
What do you think of the pre-apology bags? Was this too much or a genius thing to do?

How nice of the parents. (Here comes the “but”) BUT if people are not compassionate enough to understand how difficult it is to fly with one (let alone two) infants they certainly don’t deserve to be given gifts from already over-worked, exhausted people. The only time I get annoyed on flights is if the parent clearly is allowing the kids to use the plane as their play area and doesn’t do a dang thing to try to keep them under control. But infants crying? Sorry buddy: mommy isn’t a fan, either. Bring your own ear plugs if you don’t deal well with noise on flights
I LOVE this. What a cute idea. Although, I agree it’s a bit much (and somewhat extravagant), it’s a nice little reminder that sometimes there’s nothing you can do about a baby crying on a plane.
Hope to get there some day. Adventures of Mommy to Be
overboard for sure…get over it people…we need to pacify everyone these days it seems
I think it’s a really great idea. I know I worried and stressed over the first flight with my daughter and tho she turned out to be a fabulous flyer it could have easily gone the other way. I think this was a great way to kind of disarm people and take the edge off. Way to go mom & dad. Maybe it’s a little much but still really cute and sweet. These are obviously thoughtful and courteous people. A rarity these days!
i feel bad that the parents were so worried that they felt like they had to do it. in general, i don’t really care if people hate my child for crying b/c i was on flights with crying babies before i had kids and had to deal with it and it’s really not that big a deal. however, i have bought drinks for the people in my row on the 2 occasions my 9-month-old tried to climb on the person next to me and then got mad when i wouldn’t let her.
I think it’s awesome. I have a one year old AND a child with autism. If we ever get the courage to take a flight (it’s not about fear of flying, but fear of mean people) I am totally going to try this idea. I am more concerned about how strangers would react to my eight year old who quote “should know better” about behavior on a plane than how my toddler’s actions would be perceived. I’ve heard some really bad stories from parents who have been met with great hostility from people who do not understand that our children are not brats who are misbehaving. This idea will be shared! Thank you.
