Moms Rock the Runway at New York Fashion Week
You don’t need to be six-foot-something to walk a runway. And you certainly don’t have to settle for frumpy duds just because you’re a mom. That’s the message I received last night at Strut: The Fashionable Mom Show.
Part of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, this show features the top designers and brands that moms can easily access and afford. Co-created by Stephanie Winston Wolkoff of SWW Creative, and Denise Albert and Melissa Gerstein of The MOMS, this year’s show celebrated women who are making a difference as CEOs, philanthropists and entrepreneurs. Female empowerment and fashion? Show me to my seat!
The clothes, provided by Rent the Runway, were amazing. Bright red and orange made me look forward to the fall foliage, and added a pop of color to the little black dresses that made their way into the show. It didn’t hurt to see a few sparkly pieces either. Needless to say, my closet and I have a lot to look forward to this spring. And the women wearing these clothes gave me a lot to look forward to when it comes to my future.
The models last night have made a mark on the world, too. Melissa Lanz, founder of Fresh 20, uses her nutrition knowledge to help families eat healthier. Devi Thomas, an advocate for global health, uses her position at the United Nations to provide children with life-saving vaccines. Even our very own co-founder and editor-in-chief Carley Roney (pictured above, isn’t she fab?) manages to make time for others, working with Sophia Academy to provide education for girls from low income families. And they do it all while raising their children.
Flip through the looks, and tell us which one is your favorite!
