I wanted a pretty traditional labor (in the hospital, with an epidural), but we still hired a doula, as there was a chance my husband would have to be unavoidably out of town for our daughter’s birth. In the end he wasn’t, but our doula was invaluable. She worked really well with the hospital staff (especially nurses), and I really think that without her, the odds would have been much much higher that I would have had a c-section for my 9lb 11oz little girl.
