Kristen Bell (and Her Bump!) Give Dax Shepard’s Ailing Dad the Most Beautiful Gift of a Lifetime

The always adorable mama-to-be Kristen Bell and her leading man, Dax Shepard, have come forward to share one of the most beautiful and touching moments they’ve had together as parents (and baby’s not even born yet!).
Last December, Dax was on a solo trip to visit his dying father in a Detroit hospital. To the shock and surprise of both men, in walked his very, very pregnant partner, Bell. Talking about the occasion on his personal website, Dax said, “At one point, and unbeknownst to both of us, my wife walked into the room. She had flown in from LA without any warning. It was a surprise. It was an amazing, incredible, perfectly timed surprise.”
Dax goes on to detail what happened once Kristen entered the room — and I swear, if you weren’t already reaching for the tissues, you’re going to need them right now. Knowing that Dax’s dad might not make it to see their baby-to-be’s arrival into the world, Dax said, “She lifted her shirt up and he put his hand on her swollen stomach. He left it there for the better part of an hour. He was smiling from ear to ear, sitting contently, unable to put together a sentence, but still capable of connecting to the new family member we were creating.”
There’s nothing to be said for this aside how beautiful, breathtaking and unforgettable this moment must have been. I’m sure that Dax, Kristen and baby-to-be all carry it with them, every day and that is truly special.
Dax said about his dad, “He wasn’t going to make it to the birth, but that didn’t get in the way of him meeting the new baby. It was an emotional and triumphant moment. One I will never forget.” Trust us — we’re never going to forget the sweetness, either.
And to sum up the heartwarming story, Dax paid the ultimate tribute to his bride-to-be (the pair vow not to wed until that same right is awarded to all people). He said, “If I live to be a thousand, I will still be in debt to my wife for giving him that one last thrill.” It’s totally true — Kristen’s act was so selfless, so honest, and 100 percent about family.
So amazing!

Both of my husbands parents have passed years ago so my son never got to meet them. When I was 6 months my father nearly died of a brain aneurysm, but by God’s grace he survived and got to hold his grandson on Christmas Day 2011. I was so afraid that he wouldn’t have the chance but beyond thankful he did. Today he loves watching my boy walk and play everywhere!
My Grandmother’s have been gone for a few years now, which still is sad to me. But we lost my Grandmother in law 3 months before our son was born, and then my Mother in law passed unexpectedly 2 weeks before he was born. Those women were over joyed to become Great Grandma and Grandma, and even though they didn’t live to meet him they loved him from the moment they knew about him! It hurts my heart that they aren’t here to see what a beautiful little baby boy he is! I wish they Could see what an AMAZING father that Luke is, and how hard he’s working to support our family so i can be a SAHM. Loosing a loved one is NEVER easy! But I think when it happens when you’re expecting it hurts much deeper. I commend her for giving such a wonderful gift to her dying father in law and her hubby. It was a beautiful and selfless thing she did to surprise them like she did! I’m sure that allowed the FIL to pass on with a memory he’d always cherish.
When I hear stories like this I realize how blessed my kids & I are. I knew 6 of my great grandparents into my adult years. 2 of my kids knew 1 of their great, great grandmas, 4 of their great grandparents and my youngest knew 3 of her great grandparents. I am blessed to still have 3 grandparents alive and my kids have all 4 of their grandparents alive. How many people can say they truly got the chance to know, learn from & love so many of their grandparents?
his wife? thought they weren’t getting married til everyone was free to marry who they wanted? this story is why kristen bell is so awesome!
My son had an amazing bond with my Mom. She was diagnosed with terminal Cancer when he was almost 4. On May 17th 2008 (my Mom and Dad’s 33rd wedding anniversary) I found out I was pregnant with our second son. My Mom passed away just one week later. I am so happy that I had the opportunity to tell her I was pregnant and see how happy she was even though she knew she wouldn’t make it till the baby was born. I so wish she was still here to meet my second and now third boys and wish they had the opportunity to share the bond with her that my oldest son did.
We had just lost my father in law about 3 before I found out I was pregnant. When we found out our sons due date my husband said watch he will come early and be born on his dads birthday, well he came late! Our son was born on the same day within the same hour that the year before my father in law passed away in the same hospital. He turned a sad day for our family into a happy one!!
My Mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer 2 days after my wedding in August 2009. My son was born in May 2011 and my Mom was with me the entire time. We lost her November 3rd that same year and although she was very sick we got to spend the first six months together. He now has an angel to watch over him.
Oh wow, my kids are so fortunate that both of my GRAND PARENTS (their great grandparents) are still around let alone they have their great-grandmother on my hubbies side as well. We remind them constantly how fortunate they are as children growing up with that kind of wisdom and history to influence them. When I read stories like this, it reminds me to never take it for granted.
