Drew Barrymore’s 2-Minute Makeup Routine for Moms (WATCH!)

Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore, mom to Olive and founder of FLOWER beauty, always looks so fresh, pretty, and confident, doesn’t she? What’s her secret? In this exclusive for The Bump video and interview, Drew shares her 2 minute makeup routine for new moms, what she loves (and hates!) about motherhood, her most embarrassing pregnancy moment (oh, how we can relate to her craving!), and the mom advice she most treasures.

The Bump: What is your favorite thing about being a mom?

Drew Barrymore: Being a mom makes me think so much about my reactions to things. With kids, your reactions to everything are so utterly important and it’s made me rethink other parts of my life as well. In a nut shell, how you handle everything comes into the sharpest focus of your life when you become a parent.

TB: What’s been the hardest thing about motherhood?

DB: Guilt, guilt and more guilt. It’s never enough, being an overachiever doesn’t come close to cutting it. Worry, Worry, Worry. Wanting to make everything as perfect as you can for your kids, while trying to remember perfection probably doesn’t exist. Then, going straight back to beating yourself up again for not being perfect (and then hopefully having a good laugh at yourself).

TB: Any embarrassing pregnancy or new mom moments?

DB: I’m at Rite Aid, ordering a mint chocolate chip ice cream cone, and as I’m going animal on the cone, I look up and a paparazzi is taking a picture inside the store. I felt so humiliated in that moment, I just wanted to be a crazy pregnant woman eating her ice cream. Needless to say, I yelled at him, walked out of the Rite Aid with my head held high, and continued to eat that ice cream like nobody’s business.

TB: What’s the one thing about motherhood you were never told prior to being a mom, but totally want to share?

DB: A friend of mine said, “It’s their journey” and that sentence has really, really stayed with me. It’s not about you, it’s about making their journey the best that it can be.

TB: For new moms who are short on sleep and time, do you have any every day recommendations for how to feel like themselves again?

DB: I’ll try to do a workout DVD at home while Olive is napping every once in a while. It’s also good to start wearing more fitted clothes again because I don’t know about you, but I dressed like “Frumpy Mc. Frumpterton.”

TB: Any tricks or shortcuts for new moms who have less time to get ready – if they could apply 2 or 3 things tops, what would you recommend?

DB: I do these short videos called “Tip Tuesdays” on FlowerBeauty.com and I talk about my “Two Minute” makeup routine. It’s amazing what you can do in two minutes!

TB: What’s in your makeup bag?

DB: Our new FLOWER Glisten Up! Highlighter Chubby that is coming out in January. I put it on my cheekbone, brow bone, a tiny bit down the slope of my nose and a dab on the bow of my lips. It has literally changed the way I do makeup. I love it and I can’t wait for people to try the new product.

TB: What’s the one beauty item you can’t live without?

DB: Concealer. I never leave home without it. I love our Skincognito Stick Foundation, or for something lighter, our Lighten Up! Illuminating Concealer click pen. They’re my go to!

TB: What celeb do you most admire for her makeup (or makeup free!) style?

DB: I like women who change up their styles. Whether it was Jane Fonda, Vintage Madonna, Scarlett Johansson — I like reinvention and women who keep you guessing.
