Is It Okay for a Dad to Stay Out of the Delivery Room?

Sounds like daddy-to-be Simon Cowell won’t be standing by for his son’s delivery! When asked by Ryan Seacrest if he plans to be there to witness his little guy’s arrival, Cowell replied, “Are you kidding me?” Uh, ‘fraid not, Simon.

Cowell added, “I know this sounds awful, but it’s like you don’t want to go in to the restaurant while they’re making your dinner. I think there are certain things you shouldn’t see and that is one of them. I’ll be very close by, but no [I won’t watch.]” Um, yeah, Simon, it does sound awful but to each their own, I suppose.

Maybe Simon plans to be on-hand when Silverman delivers but he doesn’t actually want to watch her deliver? Or maybe he plans to wait in a nearby room and will rejoin her and baby once he’s arrived? Your guess, friends, is as good as mine. Truth is, maybe Silverman doesn’t want him to watch her deliver.

We polled some of our moms to see whether or not they wanted their partner in the room and here’s what they said:

My husband saw EVERYTHING and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. He “by accident” even watched the episiotomy and still gets this horrible look on his face when it is mentioned, but I’m pretty sure he would not have changed a thing. I cannot imagine doing that without his support.

My husband was there for both babies. He wouldn’t have it any other way. As long as he doesn’t see the after birth. He almost threw up, but he was there!

I just talked to my husband about this and he said he wouldn’t change a thing about our delivery. He even saw me poop on the table — I think it was more embarrassing for me than for him.

I was so grateful to have my husband there with me. Could not have done it without him!

He was definitely present and I couldn’t have done it without him. He’s definitely my rock in that situation. He cut the cord too!

Personally, I couldn’t imagine not having my husband in the delivery room. It’s probably because he’s my rock. I couldn’t get through any of this without him.  But that’s just our relationship.

it’s such a huge moment in our lives that I can’t imagine not having had my partner there by my side and sharing that moment.

I couldn’t do it without my husband… And he doesn’t need to see anything gross he can stay near my head. But that first cry, the first moment we see our baby I feel should be done together.

My poor husband is extremely squeamish and always has been, about pretty much anything medical. He’s going to try to be in there with me, but honestly, I don’t want him passing out! I told him I won’t be upset if he needs to leave the room. There’s no shame in it — it’s an intense situation!

Do you want your partner in the delivery room with you?
