Drew Barrymore Reveals Why She’s Having Baby Number Two So Soon
Aside from the fact that mama-to-be Drew Barrymore may be my spirit animal (she loves Chinese food; I love Chinese food — we’re a match made in lo mein heaven), the star recently revealed the reason why she and her husband, Will Kopelman, were trying so hard — and so soon — for another baby.
“Will is just thrilled — we both are — [because] we just wanted so badly for Olive to have a sibling,” she told People of their baby-to-be. “In some ways, it’s really for her. So congratulations, Olive!” Drew’s never been shy about her desire to give her baby girl, who’s only 13 months, a sibling to run around and wreck havoc with. ““I grew up as an only child, and although that really works for some people and for some parents that’s the way they want to do it,” she told Jay Leno. “I want the kids in the back rolling their eyes at mom and dad. I want Rusty and Audrey, theme parks and the whole nine yards.”
So what’s with the whole two under two craze that’s picking up steam in Hollywood?
Drew’s not the first mom to be vocal about having babies like rapid fire. Kristin Cavallari, who’s also recently pregnant, told E! News a few months ago that she and her husband, football star Jay Cutler, “want to have a second sooner rather than later.” Before announcing that they were expecting, she said that they wanted two close in age. “We know we want another one close in age to Camden.” Same goes for Kendra On Top star Kendra Wilkinson, who’s expecting again with her husband, Hank Baskett.
We asked some of our moms and here’s what they had to say of the trend:
“My little brother is 9 years younger, I always wanted a close in age sibling!”
“I think for everyone the right time to add to their family is different. I have a bunch of friends who really loved being super close in age to their siblings.”
“I got pregnant with my second one when our first was 4 months. It was a bit of a shock but now that we have them both it is great they are 13 months apart and are a joy to watch interact with each other. If we do have a third we want to have him or her close too.”
“I had two kids 13 months apart and find it the most rewarding experience for all the chaos we experience daily. Granted, it will only be for a couple years! They are the best of friends, in the same size diapers, and I didn’t have to go through a jealousy stage with the older one! And after we were done, I could focus on getting my body back 100 percent.
“We tried for three under three and ended up with four under three…..SURPRISE! While our lives are crazy, we wouldn’t change a thing!”
“I have a 13-month-old old and am 13 weeks pregnant with baby number 2. My brother and I are 5 years apart and have NOTHING in common. My husband and I only have one sibling and neither of them will be having kids soon so no close cousins for our kids to play with. For us, having siblings close in age is perfect. But I also feel crazy at times. It’s an adventure!”
“I was 34 when I had my first one, my second arrived 13 mos later, my third 15 months after that. I have three beautiful little boys and I couldn’t be happier. Yes, I did this on purpose. Yes, it was hard at times. There were days when all I did was walk the floor holding one or more of them. I got nothing done around the house. My oldest was teething and my second one had colic. I would do it again in a heartbeat. My friends and family thought I was crazy for having three that close together but my boys are inseparable…wonderful together. They won’t always need me as much as they do right now. If I had a dime for every time someone looked at me and said, “My! You’ve got your hands full.” I’d be a wealthy woman.”
“I now wish I did have two under two so I could get the sleepless nights and nappies out of the way and continue studying. My daughter is now 20 months and we have been trying to concieve for the last two months. Fingers crossed it happens soon!”
“I’m glad I’m not the only one who wants kids that aren’t far apart. My baby girl isn’t even four months old yet and we just found pout we are expecting again. We are scared but very excited at the same time. I have always wanted to have at least 4 kids and have had this theory of having them while im young so that me and my husband will be able to have our time together after the kids are grown and still be young enough to do fun things.”
