How’s this for your Friday morning headline: Drew Barrymore wants all y’all to know that pregnancy ain’t about perfection. What’s that, you say? You didn’t quite get the message? Allow me to reiterate: Drew wants women everywhere, expectant or not, to know that the business of growing a baby (and simultaneously, a belly) should not be to look perfect. Heavens, if this woman wasn’t already my spirit animal…
In the December issue of Women’s Health, Drew says that being pregnant with baby number two has made her realize that it’s more about how you’re feeling and less about how you’re looking. “It’s about feeling good in clothes and knowing you can get dressed up in the evening,” she says, “but there’s just no such thing as perfection. So if you’re trying to get there, you’re just torturing yourself.”
She also adds that being a mom (and a mom-to-be) changes your perspective on a lot of things, especially work. She said, “Everything I’m going to do is going to have a real consciousness toward, ‘Is this a job I can do and still get home in time for dinner and have days where I get to do every diaper change?’” Drew, I hear you, sister. "Work has been my priority my whole life,” she says. “It feels okay to shift that priority, it feels like it’s time.”
But my favorite part of her intimate interview came when Drew revealed her workout regime this time around. With some much pressure placed on moms-to-be (both in the spotlight and outside of it), you’d think that the notoriously famous Hollywood mama would be hitting the gym hard to keep her figure red-carpet ready, right? Well, I’m happy to tell you that you’re way off.
“I’m actually not really working out right now,” she told the magazine. Instead, she’s following a routine we all swear by: “It’s a lot of fork up the food, shove to mouth, chew, repeat.”
Sounds pretty damn good to me.
Did you feel a lot of pressure to have the “perfect” pregnancy?
