I thought Drew Barrymore and I had reached the peak of our relationship when the two-time mama-to-be starred in “Never Been Kissed” but hell, Drew’s gone and done it again. This time, the starlet is dishing on her pregnancy weight gain (and those cravings!) the second time around — and why she doesn’t give a flying foo about being bigger than before.
In a sit-down on The Ellen Show, Drew detailed what’s like to be expecting with baby number two and why she isn’t heeding her doctor’s warnings. She said, “I just eat everything I want, which isn’t healthy. I’m bigger this time than my first time. My doctor the other day was like, ‘Yeah, so I think maybe pull back… a little bit.’ I was like, ‘Really? I thought I was doing great. I still fit into those jeans — they hurt when I wear them — but I still fit into them!’ Listen, it takes nine months to make it and nine months to ever make it. I don’t ever pose, ‘I’m just so fabulous and I lose it like that.’ I want to enjoy the pasta right now! What’s 10 pounds.?”
Would it be weird to want to kiss Drew over this one? Because when there’s mention of pasta, things just start to go a little blurry for me. Anyway… Ellen, as she so loving does, told Drew that pregnancy a basic rite of passage that leads straight to the kitchen. Drew, bless her heart, agreed, saying, “When I’m twirling those vegetable pan fried noodles from Chinese takeout later, I’m going to say, ‘Ellen said that it was way okay to do that!’”
The loving banter was all in good fun. Upon first hearing about Drew’s second pregnancy, Ellen told her she looked “fat” instead of “fabulous”. (Sigh of relief you guys, it was a joke that Drew loved!)
But the real magic here is in Drew’s free-spirited take on the pregnancy and post-pregnancy baby weight. She’s human, she’s a mom, her choices are her own. If Drew wants to eat the pasta, she should eat the damn pasta! And so should you. You are your critic and advocate, so if you feel like indulging, do it. You’ll drop the pounds after baby. It’s possible.
So don’t feel bad for reaching for that second (or third) bowl.
