Mom Delivering Triplets Gets a Surprise She’d Never, Ever Dreamed Of
Here’s your daily dose of delivery drama: Mama-to-be Kimberly Fugate, who was in the midst of c-section delivery quickly — and unexpectedly — learned that she was having quadruplets, not triplets, like she was originally told. She told Good Morning America, “They had got the three out and they said, ‘More feet,’ more feet’ … that’s all I heard and I said, ‘Nooo!'”
Apparently, a fourth identical quadruplet was hiding in her mama’s stomach,. missed by countless ultrasounds and tests. Her presence was actually so unknown that doctors was absolutely baffled when she followed her sisters into the world just last week at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Kimberly said, “It’s one surprise after another.” The odds of delivering spontaneous quadruplets is one in every 729,000 live births. (Anybody else think mama should played lotto that day too?)
But that wasn’t all — even the director of maternal-fetal medicine at UMMC was shocked by the identical quadruplets arrival. Dr. James Bofill said, “I was very embarrassed, obviously. The news was sent to me by one of my fellows. I thought she was kidding.”
Her four identical girls: Kenleigh Rosa, Kristen Sue, Kayleigh Pearl and Kelsey Roxanne were named after family members and arrived three months early to the party — just a day after their mama’s 42 birthday. And though they are more than 12 weeks premature, doctors reveal that the fabulous foursome are doing well in the neonatal intensive care unit. They’ll need to stay under observation and care, however, until about early May (which was their original due date). Kimberly admitted that she hasn’t been able to hold her daughters yet, but that doesn’t seem to bother the doting mama. She said, “It will be very exciting to get to take them home and love them.” Yep, it definitely will!
Kenleigh, Kristen, Kayleigh and Kelsey join big sister Katelyn, who’s 10. Kimberly and her husband, Craig, have even set up a Facebook page to keep relatives and well-wishes up-to-date on the quadruplets’ progress.
