The Hand-Holding Twins Come Home!

You know them, you love them, and we’re excited to share some follow-up news about them. Jillian and Jenna are home!

For those who may not be avid readers of all baby-related news, Jillian and Jenna Thistlewaite are the twin baby girls who were photographed holding hands moments after their birth last month. Their story, and their photo, quickly went viral (obviously — it’s adorable). The pair, born to Sarah and Bill Thistlethwaite at Akron, Ohio’s General Medical Center, shared the same amniotic sac and placenta during pregnancy. This rare condition is referred to as monoamnioitic, or “mono mono,” and occurs in about one out of every 10,000 pregnancies.

Since their May 9 birthday, Jillian and Jenna have been getting stronger in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit. And their sisterly bond hasn’t faded since that magical hand-clasping moment that had us all teary-eyed.

“When I try to feed them on the feeding pillow, they gradually migrate toward each other,” said mom Sarah. “And when I lay them on the floor, they scoot toward each other. It’s pretty cool to see them doing.”

She added that finally having the whole family under one roof is a relief.
