Pregnant Chelsea Clinton Spotted at Jury Duty
A very pregnant Chelsea Clinton reported to Manhattan Supreme Court on Tuesday for jury duty, and she was totally cool about it.
Why does this matter? Basically, although we love the original diva, Madonna turned jury duty into a huge production last week. We’re talking a late arrival, an army of body guards, and a sequestered 90 minutes of service.
Not only did Clinton not try and use her celebrity status to try and dodge the nationally-disdained civic duty, but she demonstrated plenty of poise and patience — proof that pregnant women are normal, functioning human beings too. Witnesses say she sat quietly in the back of the room, listening to her iPhone for most of the day, which got started at 9 a.m. Most of the juror candidates didn’t notice she was in the room until the 4:30 p.m. roll call.
PIX 11 reporter James Ford was also summoned, and tweeted about Clinton. “So I’m on jury duty today, & just saw that part of my pool is @ChelseaClinton. And she seems nice. And she’s really pregnant. #BestWishes.” And then the press came running.
Clinton happily posed for photos with the other jurors, who were all dismissed shortly after roll call. Outside of the court house, she told reporters, “I think it’s important that everyone participate in jury duty, just as it’s important that people vote and pay their taxes.”
What a well-trained First Daughter.
Clinton, who is expecting her first child with husband Marc Mezvinsky, is due this fall.
