Forget Black Friday and Cyber Monday — it’s all about # GivingTuesday.
Today people and businesses are getting behind the idea that the holiday season is as much about giving as it is about receiving. And one very cool fundraising website, CrowdRise, is showing just how powerful your donation can be — with a virtual “Giving Tower.”
This is how it works: donate anything from $10 to $10,000 and choose from dozens of charities, from David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to the 92nd Street Y. After you’ve made your contribution, a “brick” will be added to the tower. One of the featured charities is Every Mother Counts, the same organization that partnered up with our very own charity registry program.
It’s a cool way to make philanthropy a little more tangible. As of today, $600,000 has been raised, which is the equivalent to 5,240 cyber bricks, making the virtual Giving Tower taller than the Seattle Space Needle.
Other Cool Giving Tuesday Campaigns
Johnson’s is teaming up with singer Jennifer Hudson (no coincidence that she sings “Giving Myself”) for the More Hands, More Hearts campaign to provide babies with resources for a bright future. The company is making financial donations, product donations, and creating educational initiatives through partner organizations like Save the Children. Learn how you can help here.
Strider Sports is donating a total of 490 Balance Bikes until Dec. 12. The pedal-free bikes are perfect for 18-month-olds learning to ride or those with special needs who can’t. To enter the Strider Gives Back Campaign for a free Balance Bike, families affiliated with a special needs organization can submit a photo and story on behalf of an applicant here.
Happy #GivingTuesday!
