Forget green! Kate Middleton rocked navy and brown this St. Patrick’s Day. But that doesn’t mean she wasn’t feeling festive. The Duchess presented a bouquet of shamrocks to the Officers and Guardsmen of the 1st Battalion Irish Guards, who gathered in Aldershot, England for the annual parade.
The tradition dates back to 1901, when Queen Alexandra first presented the Regiment with shamrocks. No word on how Alexandra’s St. Paddy’s Day fashion matches up with Kate’s. Princess Kate wore a Catherine Walker coat, a chocolate Lock & Co. hat, suede Emmy London heels and a golden shamrock brooch.
While Prince William sampled a pint of Guinness afterwards, Kate stuck to water. It won’t be long before she can indulge, though; the Duchess is expected to give birth next month. This parade marked one of her final scheduled public appearances before the baby’s born. With that in mind, we’re offering our Irish name suggestions for royal baby no. 2.
If it’s a girl:
Fiona — As we learned from Shrek, this name is fit for a princess.
Brianna — Everyone’s advocating for a Princess Diana namesake. What about paying tribute with something different that rhymes?
Edna — It’s not a classic choice, we know, but Will and Kate took an older name approach with George. We wouldn’t be surprised if they do it again.
If it’s a boy:
Graham — Just in case the Duke and Duchess want to consider sticking to a “G” theme.
Owen — This name keeps rising in popularity. And fittingly, it means “well born.”
Finn — Associated with energy and charm, Finn is a perfect name choice for a baby brother. Especially if he turns out anything like Prince Harry.
