The Graves family is asking for just one thing from their followers: prayers.
One week after an emergency c-section, the mother from the viral ‘bun in the oven’ pregnancy video, Dana Griffin-Graves, is in stable condition, while her new baby boy, Kaleb, remains in critical condition.
The couple updated their Facebook page as soon as they knew they’d be having a c-section, 16 weeks before Kaleb’s due date. But even though Kaleb was delivered safely, we’re just finding out how complicated the pregnancy and delivery really were.
“Kaleb had his mom’s blood pressure very, very high, to the point that it was putting her health at risk,” dad, Arkell Graves, tells PEOPLE. “The doctors came in every day and explained the risk of continuing to hold him inside.”
While the doctors indicated continuing to carry Kaleb could leave Dana with liver, lung and heart problems, Arkell says Dana refused to let them operate until Kaleb had the best chance of survival. “She refused to go on with the delivery until it was a time where they could actually take care of him in the neonatal intensive care unit,” Arkell says. "I’m going to tell you, just looking at my wife, it was the most selfless thing I have ever seen somebody do."Last week, Dana revealed doctors suggested that she terminate the pregnancy for the sake of her health. But, as you’ll remember, Kaleb was their miracle baby, unexpectedly conceived after 17 years of trying. She wasn’t giving up.

Like his mother, Kaleb is a fighter too. Yesterday, for the first time, he opened his eyes and grabbed his parents’ fingers.
“It’s those little things that people take for granted that make us so grateful,” they posted on Facebook. You can help support the family on their GoFundMe page.
