Ever since Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick welcomed daughter Penelope Scotland on July 8, we’ve been dying to see pictures. The wait is over. The latest issue of Us Weekly has the first photos!

The cover features a smiling Kourtney with a happy Mason and sleeping Penelope. Kourtney gushed about becoming a mother of two saying, “Nothing could prepare me for how hard I fell in love with her.”

We’re sure Kourtney and her sisters are filling up Penelope’s closet with designer baby couture (lucky kid!)

Everyone’s talking about the brand-new mom of two, Kourtney Kardashian this week. With all of the talk surrounding the birth of Penelope Scotland — the latest addition to the Kardashian-Disick clan — we couldn’t help but be intrigued by the newborn’s unusual name. Let’s face it: it isn’t too often you encounter a Penelope, let alone a Scotland (which we can only assume is after her father, Scott Disick). In fact, the first name seems to be one that you find almost exclusively in fairy-tales and SNL characters. Either way, we can’t get enough of the quirky moniker!

What it means:
The Greek name was first seen in Homer’s The Odyssey and stands for loyalty. It also means “with a web over her face”. How mysterious!

How (un)common is it?:
The name ranks unsurprisingly low on the Social Security Administration’s Top Baby Names List. In fact, Penelope came in 169th in 2011 followed by Jenna and Ashlyn.

Well-known Penelopes:
Aside from the most obvious Penelope — Cruz, that is — the name is hard to find! There’s the movie Penelope, where Christina Ricci plays a really cute girl with a pig nose, and there’s a Simpsons character named Princess Penelope. Another one of our favorite Penelopes is also a fictional character: a desperate-to-impress mouthy thirty-something played by Kristen Wiig on SNL. So it’s kind of nice to welcome a new, real-life Penelope into the world.

Hot Baby Names for 2012

Ever since the oldest Kardashian sister announced her second pregnancy in November, we’ve been racking our brains for possible “K” names that the family hasn’t already covered. But Kourtney chose a different naming route — she and longtime boyfriend Scott Disick welcomed their daughter Sunday, and named her Penelope Scotland. The newest member of the Kardashian-Disick clan was born at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and weighed in at 7 pounds, 14 ounces. The couple already have a son, Mason Dash Disick, who’s two-and-a-half.

Aunt Kim even posted a message on her website stating:

“Kourtney gave birth to a beautiful baby daughter on Sunday and the whole family is so thrilled to finally meet her! She is absolutely perfect! I am so excited to be an aunt again and can’t wait to spoil the little Penelope.”

Between her parents’ fame and family namesake, it’s clear that the newborn will receive plenty of attention, love and fashion advice.

Will you be keeping up with the Kardashians when it comes to baby showers? Kourtney, who’s expecting a girl in July, celebrated Mother’s Day weekend with a baby shower in Los Angeles. Kourtney’s mom Kris and sisters Kim and Khloe threw her a luncheon on Saturday May 12th. According to PEOPLE, more than 50 guests attended the backyard party (including Kim’s new boyfriend Kanye West and Khloe’s husband Lamar) in Kris’s home. The theme was “The Hamptons.”

This wasn’t Kourtney’s first shower for this pregnancy, though. Her boyfriend Scott Disick had thrown her a bash a few weeks ago in his hometown — it was an elegant affair at a restaurant in Riverhead, NY.

So who here got highlights while pregnant? Kourtney Kardashian is catching some flak about it. Kourtney, who’s now pregnant with baby number two, recently blogged about the decision to highlight her hair while pregnant and even went so far as to explain that she made special efforts to make sure she was doing it safely.

She wrote on her blog: “I did research about doing anything to the color of my hair while pregnant and followed all of the guidelines from my doctor and took the proper precautions necessary. I highlighted my hair (which is considered the safest form of hair color while pregnant) and NOT to the root, so nothing ever touched my scalp. I also used products that did not contain any ammonia. It is also recommended to be in a well-ventilated area as well as being at least in your second trimester, and I followed both of those rules. Anyone who knows anything about me knows that I take caution in all the products I use all the time, but especially when pregnant.”

We’ve talked to a medical expert in the past, who basically said, if you’re going to do it, do it the way Kourtney did: wait until after the first trimester, do highlights instead of dyes so it doesn’t touch your scalp and go ammonia- and peroxide-free. (In fact, we wonder if Kourtney did her research on The Bump!) But still, some commenters on Kourtney’s blog are calling her selfish for even risking it.
