The CPSC says, “Infants and young children can roll off the edge of the inflatable air mattress, become entrapped between the mattress and the fabric sides of the tent, and suffocate.”

In December 2011, a five-month-old baby boy in New York City died, and was found with his face against the side wall of the tent — the cause of his death was not determined. There have been nine reports of children becoming entrapped or experiencing “physical distress” while in the tent. Some of the babies were found underneath the mattress — which hadn’t been zippered into place — and were crying.

The recall includes these model numbers (located on a small tag on the underside of the tent) and tent fabric colors:

On Tuesday, October 23, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Dorel Juvenile Group recalled over 97,000 Eddie Bauer rocking wood bassinets. The recall comes after several reports of bassinets tipping to one side, posing a threat to infants’ breathing.

The recalled bassinet was sold at Target, Toys R Us and Sears stores nationwide, and online at Ebay and other websites from December 2007 through January 2011 for about $150.

The bassinet, which has dark brown wooden headboard and footboard and a cotton bassinet, comes in several colors. These bassinets have a dial at the base of the footboard that locks and unlocks the rocking motion of the bassinet. The dial has failed to lock properly if a spring is not installed, making the bassinet tilt and causing infants to roll to the side of the bassinet.

The following model numbers, which can be found on the mattress, are included in the recall:

10632
10639
10832
10835
10839
BT021

If you own this bassinet, stop using the product immediately and contact Dorel to obtain a free repair kit, which includes a spring and new instructions for assembly. Contact Dorel at toll-free at 877-416-0165, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit www.djgusa.com and click on Safety Notices for more information
